Postdoctoral (female) Fellowship in Applied Ecology at Leuphana University of Lüneburg

The Leuphana University of Lüneburg, the Institute of Ecology, Section Ecosystem Functions is offering Postdoctoral (female) Fellowship in Applied Ecology. The fellowship aims an equal ranking to male and female academics (PROScience at Leuphana University) and is addressed to young, highly qualified female scientists intending to get a professorship in the field of Sustainability Sciences. The position is available for 1st of January 2011 (or later) and is initially for two years but can be extended to five years after positive evaluation. The basic salary for the scholarship is at least ˆ 2.000 per months subjected to the family situation. Research in the group ranges from basic to applied ecology of inter- and transdisciplinary context. Research projects spam macroecological and chemical aspects and include outreach activities to stakeholders like conservation organizations and farmers. Research focuses on documenting and understanding biodiversity and ecosystem functioning relationships in respect to plant-consumer interactions for human wellbeing. Model organisms are pollinating bees and other functional taxa like insect, mammal, and bird herbivores and seed dispersers. Postdoctoral applicants should have a Ph.D. in ecology or conservation biology, have experience in conducting research in either tropical or Mediterranean countries, and have a strong publication record. Working knowledge in at least two of the following areas is required: chemical ecology (HPLC, PCL), GIS (ArcGIS), statistical methods (R). A strong interest in modern ecological methods and inter-disciplinary research is required. The successful candidate will be integrated in the ongoing research projects of the group in Germany and abroad, with the co-supervision of MSc and PhD students and will develop new projects and grant proposals within the group. The “Ecosystem Functions” group is recently established at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and the successful applicant should strengthen the teaching and research focus of the group and will have the opportunity to develop their own theme of interest within the group. Application must include a cover letter (including the date on which the applicant could start the position), curriculum vitae, results of exams, publication list including two to three example publications, and names and email addresses of three academic referees. A brief outline of research that the applicant will establish in the research group including outreach activities (of 2 to 5 pages) and a list of teaching interests can be submitted.
